چکیده

We report studies of the motion of cold atoms in a time-dependent optical potential. The dynamics of our system are that of the quantum kicked rotor, and exhibit a wide variety of phenomena. One purely quantum effect is the quantum resonance, which occurs for well-chosen initial conditions and specific values of the period between kicks. Distinctly nonclassical behavior, such as ballistic growth in momentum, is possible at a quantum resonance. Previous experimental studies have observed these resonances, but have not clearly resolved the expected ballistic motion. We now observe ballistic motion at quantum resonances and compare our momentum distributions with theory and numerical simulations. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Classical to quantum crossover in high-current noise of one-dimensional ballistic wires

Microscopic current fluctuations are inseparable from conductance. We give an integral account of both quantized conductance and nonequilibrium thermal noise in one-dimensional ballistic wires. Our high-current noise theory opens a very different window on such systems. Central to the role of nonequilibrium ballistic noise is its direct and robust dependence on the statistics of carriers. For, ...

Quantum Interference Control of Ballistic Magneto- resistance in a Magnetic Nanowire Containing Two Atomic- Size Domain Walls

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...

Resonant peak splitting for ballistic conductance in magnetic superlattices

We investigate theoretically the resonant splitting of ballistic conductance peaks in magnetic superlattices. It is found that, for magnetic superlattices with periodically arranged n identical magnetic-barriers, there exists a general (n − 1)-fold resonant peak splitting rule for ballistic conductance, which is the analogy of the (n − 1)-fold resonant splitting for transmission in n-barrier el...

Conductance in quantum wires by three quantum dots arrays

A noninteracting quantum-dot arrays side coupled to a quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. The conductance at zero temperature develops an oscillating band with resonances and antiresonances due to constructive and destructive interference in the ballistic channel, respectively. Moreover, we have fo...
